Smallville: "COMBAT"

Tonight on Smallville, Clark battled with his feelings over Lana's marriage to Lex by expressing anger toward meteor freaks who had escaped from justice. He had been going around Metropolis, taking justice into his own hands by capturing and even knocking out meteor freaks who had escaped prison or Belle Reeve.

Then given a tip from Oliver Queen (The Green Arrow), he checked out this site that hosted fights among meteor freaks, and a mysterious fighter named Titan. With the help of his sidekick Chloe, they discovered that the operator of Belle Reeve was taking patients, meteor freaks, from the hospital to the fight club and having Titan kill them for the worldwide web to see, or at least for those who paid a hefty sum of money for this reenactment of the coliseum days. They also discover that Titan is not a meteor freak, but rather a prisoner from the Phantom Zone.

Lois comes in at the opportune moment and discovers what Clark and Chloe have been researching, and so she decides to use this to her advantage for an Inquisitor story. She figures out where the fights are being held from a picture that Chloe had printed off and thrown away, and Lois shows up at their door with some boots and a marine-kicking attitude, taking out the woman guard and getting herself thrust onto the fight lineup.

Meanwhile, Clark confronts the operator of Belle Reeve, showing him his Man of Steel abilities and gaining a slot in the fight lineup. Back at the fight club, Clark is sent into the arena to fight who else but Lois Lane. Lois circles him for a little bit, telling him that she'll punch him if he doesn't punch her. Clark refuses, and she punches her fist into his stomach. Unfortunately for Lois, she is fighting the Man of Steel, and she recoils and says that Clark doesn't just have a six-pack under that shirt but a steel plate. Don't we know it!

While Lois is turned away, nursing her wounded hand, Clark uses his laser vision to fry the computers and stop the recording. Titan then enters the arena and goes after Clark, who he calls Kal-El. Lois tries to stop Titan, but is thrown off like a rag doll. The next thing to happen is a fight between Titan and the Man of Steel that can't be described, only watched. Pretty cool! Eventually, Clark wins - big surprise there - and Titan falls down dead.

When talking it over with his mother, Clark said that he felt such rage toward Titan and wanted to kill him with his bare hands. Martha Kent said that the anger he had been harboring toward Lana and Lex's wedding was behind his rage, and he had been looking to take that anger out on someone else, hence, Titan.

On the other side of the spectrum, Lana and Lex's marriage seems to be off to a rough start. There is no love like before. Lana eventually loses her baby, and she takes it pretty badly. At the end of the episode, Lex is seen burning up Lana's files. Will we ever know what truly went wrong?

Sadly, that was the end, and it looks like there won't be a new episode next week either. We'll just have to wait and see.
