Smallville: "PROMISE"

Airing last night on Smallville was episode 16: Promise. This episode dealt with the wedding of Alexander (Lex) Luthor and Lana Lang. It was a very good yet horrible episode. I hated it! Naw, it was awesome! Throughout the episode, the times would change back to the beginning of the day and show the same scene you just saw from another person's perspective.

Onto the Story - Lana tricked Chloe into going to the wine cellar to get Lex's present so she could then shut the door on Chloe, manipulating her into calling Clark for help. When Clark came zipping in, Lana saw it all - the ripping off of the door handle, the lifting of the door, the securing of the door back in place with his heat vision, and the zipping of his feet as he "ran" out the door. Lana finally discovered his secret! And she also discovered that Clark still loved her.

Lana immediately started to write a note to Lex about not being able to go through with the wedding when Clark came in the door. She told him to meet her at his barn at 5 p.m. because she was not going to marry Lex. After Clark left, in walked Lionel Luthor with a threat. He could tell that Lana knew about Clark's secret, so he told her that if she did not marry Lex, he would kill Clark for he knew what his weakness was.

All the while, we are wondering what is really up with Lana's baby. Lex has a meeting with her physician that ends in Lex killing him. It must be a pretty big secret!

At the wedding, we hold our breath. Will she show or not? Unfortunately, she does, and the wedding proceeds without so much as a hesitation. We now present to you, Lex and Lana Luthor.

After the wedding ceremony, Clark enters Lana's room and asks her why she didn't meet him. She tells him that she wants to be with Lex. Clark is crestfallen. The episode ends with Lana and Lex sitting in the back of their limo, being driven off into the sunset, while Lana looks back on Clark, who stands alone in the crowd of well-wishers.

It was a terrific, horribly good episode. So sad. The good thing is that Lana is getting farther and farther away from Clark's grasp. But we all know that as long as she lives, he will never stop thinking of her. Something drastic has to happen. Her death? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Till Next Thursday!
